We are always thinking about what comes next - what new technology, what new sector, what new service. We make considerable investments in new technology and extract the most out of it. A fond saying in our premises is, “Question the status quo and the data sheet”.

  • During our 2011 Citizen ID card project, Xerox reported that our machine saw the most usage anywhere in the world!
  • Investment in capability for offerings like metal cards, RFID, and personalised cheque books well before the rest of the industry.
  • Unmatched risk-taking capacity for projects ranging from the national rollout of Citizen ID card to niche experiments like metal payment cards.
  • Teams often travel abroad to study and implement the latest technology and development in hardware, sans bureaucracy. They are given a sense of responsibility and ownership, helping the company save time and deliver cutting-edge solutions for clients faster.

Special purpose machines

We don’t just import the latest machines from Germany, Japan and the US - we customise them to our use case, and often sync them up with other machines to provide a unique combination that performs two jobs at once. Our in-house software and middleware capabilities enable these unique customisations and free use from vendor software limitations. These special purpose machines (SPMs) are a key part of the Seshaasai factory floor. Our dedicated research unit fabricates custom processes and finds ways of using technology to enhance worker productivity.

  • Our first major non-banking project was the printing of census schedules - for which we developed special purpose machines combining barcoding, offset printing and variable data printing: All in less than two months.
  • We do process engineering to help clients achieve very specific requirements. For instance, a public sector bank wanted to develop a cheque book with QR and magnetic strip to be used in kiosks. In an industry first, we developed and executed it.

Our technology investment pays off in several ways. Primarily, we are able to upgrade our clients’ and industry’s expectations; from cutting lead times, to providing unmatched traceability, to adding security features. What’s more, we have become good at going from concept to operations quickly - because we already have the infrastructure and knowledge in place.

  • We developed IOMS to help solve a fragmented vendor problem, which helped with accountability, control and transparency.
  • We have our own research division - Seshaasai Labs - that has developed many of our own machines which we use or sell to clients, such as the RFID tunnel for easier retail stock tracking. Our Research Lab was not closed even during the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic.
